TouchCAD provides a range of specialized tools for marine design, such as the ability to create lines drawings using dynamic cross sectioning and other shape analyzing features, calculating weights, 3D surface area, center of gravity, wetted surface, displacement, prismatic and block coefficients, etc. Data is gathered automatically in the Database Spreadsheet. Section area curves can be calculated and plotted. Table of offsets are generated automatically. Surfaces with a thickness can be created, with uniform or variable thickness. Unfolded panels can be nested for production, and are dynamically linked to the 3D model.
TouchCAD provides very fast and precise modeling. It is easy to add and delete control points anywhere on the surface. All control points are located on the surface, not vaguely beside it, as in most competing programs. Shapes are therefore controlled by absolute coordinates, and not indirectly. Curve breaks can be achieved using the hard points feature, allowing creation of far more complex shapes compared with ordinary NURBS surfaces. A wealth of display modes and parametric settings allow visualization of shapes in many different ways. Any number of control points located in any number of objects can simultaneously be moved in any direction. Numerically adjustable mesh resolution and skin type, the ability to snap not only on control points but also on mesh points gives a superb control over both shape and dimensions. It also makes it easy to join and trim objects to one another.
The Intersection Point symbol (above) allows constrained push-pull dragging from any view and in any direction. The model is updated dynamically when dragging, including cross sections, which gives a superb shape control. The powerful Scale Box, located around any selected points, allows mode-less scaling, rotation, skewing and deformation in a whopping 28 different ways, without changing tool. This constrained dragging provides reference snapping by simply holding the cursor over another control point or surface mesh point. The dynamic sectioning works in any 3D view so it is now possible to do intricate shaping from any view. Directional view axes in any 3D view helps to indicate the view direction. All this makes TouchCAD one of the fastest, easiest to use, and most maneuverable modelers on the market.
