TouchCAD can be used for recreating already produced objects by using a few measuring points. Right is an example wherein a few 3D reference points (1) were merged into two curves (2) and then lofted into a surface (3) to recreate the flat unfolded pattern for the windscreen on a boat. Once you have the control points, it is a matter of minutes to generate the surface and to unfold it. Watch a movie to see how it's done.

Background images can also be used for recreating objects. Images from at least two views can be combined into a 3D shape. TouchCAD allow separate images from the fixed Font, Top and Side views to be imported. These images are only displayed in the respective view, and can be imported in exact scale relative to one another, to the 3D model, and located correctly relatively to one another in 3D space. Such images can either be ordinary photos, or scanned in 2D drawings. Watch a movie to see how it's done.
